Pouring our Barndominium Foundation

It feels like it has taken us forever to get to this day. We’ve had so many roadblocks and stops and starts… it has definitely been a time of testing for this family. Yet, we rest assured that God has this (and everything else) under control. Through it all we’ve tried to fully learn each lesson on patience… hopefully we won’t have to repeat any!

To sum up, the last six months have been a waiting game. Waiting for the perc test (6 weeks), waiting for the building permit (waiting for someone to actually be in the building permit office), waiting on the metal building kit company to deliver (3 months)… and waiting … and waiting (3 more months)… for all the deliveries.

Finally, the doors are opening up and we are actually able to see our barndo builds come out of the ground, and we are so thankful.

We are building both a garage (with apartment) and a house, so we had grading, rough plumbing, and rough electrical, as well as the concrete forms prepped.

We’ve never had a county require a pressure test on the plumbing under the house, but we’re thankful this one did. We did find a leak! But the trick was getting 80 gallons of water to a property in the middle of nowhere with no water service… what challenges!

Once we passed all our inspections, the guys were out and had the concrete poured for both builds in one day! We chose to use wet set brackets for our barndominium builds. While the concrete was wet the brackets for the main posts of the house were inserted at the precise (and I mean precise since they also frame the doors) locations of each post.

Looking forward to seeing our barndominiums get framed… stay tuned!
