In the last post I talked about how our barndo kit did not include “offloading.” Our new home is in a very rural area of Georgia… and the metal companies in that area just don’t include offloading in their deliveries.
We didn’t realize just how “huge” of a deal that was until everything started getting delivered. If you can – – always pay for offloading!
The delivery of the barndominium kits has now been spread across 4 months. This has required us to rent a forklift 4 times… and this coming Tuesday… will be the 5th. That is approximately $1K each time (hitting head against the wall). Buy the offloading if you can!
We did really mess up with one of the deliveries… but it’s good that we can use the metal for other things like our future chicken coop and a little pavilion by our pond.
Since we were getting bits and pieces of the barndominiums for months, we purchased several big tarps and covered what did come in. For the most part this worked well and most of our lumber was still pretty straight.
